To create this candy board you’ll want to pick out a variety of ingredients in different sizes. Larger items will be used to build out blocks of space on the board. You can also fill some of these spaces with small bowls to hold other items.

Before buying ingredients you might be thinking…..

How much candy per person for candy charcuterie board?

How much candy as well as cookies, cupcakes and other items you may want to buy will depend upon how your candy board is being used.

  • Will it be used as the only dessert for a small group? A larger group?
  • Will you be serving other desserts?
  • Is this just a snacking board? Or dessert served after Easter dinner?
  • Do you plan on refilling the board as your party or family gathering goes on?

This will help to guide you on the amounts of ingredients you may want to have on hand. If you have a large group and plan on refilling the board for guests to continue snacking on through out a party then you will want to have more items. Example: 2 dozen cookies instead of 1 dozen.

To keep your Easter dessert candy board budget friendly set a limit on how much you will be spending on ingredients. It’s very easy to grab a bunch of cute candies to add to the board only to find out you’ve spent more money than planned.

When choosing items for your charcuterie board use the 3 3 3 3 rule.

What is the 3 3 3 3 rule for charcuterie board?

This “rule” is a great method for deciding on how many items to purchase for your board and is an easy way to help keep costs under control. For a traditional board it would usually mean to choose 3 types of meat, 3 types of cheese, 3 types of starches and 3 types of condiments or accompaniments to create a nice selection of items on the board.

When creating a candy or dessert board perhaps you will want to choose 3 types of cookies, 3 types of cupcakes or bars, 3 types of pretzels/nuts and 3 types of chocolates/small candies. This would provide you with a selection of treats in different sizes for your board.

candy, cookies and cupcakes to make this Easter candy charcuterie board

Here’s what was used for this candy Easter board. My board is being set out during an Easter celebration family gathering for lunch.

I purchased single packages of most cookies, candies and the cupcakes. For larger items such as the Kinder eggs and Reese carrot these are items that are purchased individually rather than in packages. I’ve included the names of the items purchased below. They were all bought at my local Walmart.

  • White chocolate-covered pretzels – Flipz White Fudge Pretzels
  • Jelly beans in pastel colors – Brach’s Speckled Jelly Beans
  • Strawberry wafer cookies – Great Value Strawberry Cream Wafer Cookies
  • Lindt chocolate bunnies – Lindt Gold Bunny Easter Chocolate Candy Bunny, 5 count package
  • Rainbow marshmallows – Yummallow Rainbow Marshmallows
  • Pastel sugar cookies – Walmart Frosted Sugar Cookies
  • Kinder Joy eggs
  • Sweet tart Easter candies –
  • Chocolate Easter eggs
  • Marshmallow Peeps, various colors and shapes
  • Easter M&Ms
  • Reese’s chocolate carrots bag candies
  • Easter decorated rice krispy treats – Rice Krispies Treats with added Easter sprinkles on top
  • Easter decorated mini cupcakes – Walmart Confetti Mini Cupcakes
  • Easter decorated cookies
  • Easter sprinkles

Other fun candies you might see to use on this type of board include malted Robin Eggs, Peanut Butter Eggs and various Easter shaped foil wrapped chocolate candies.

One fun idea that we came up with after seeing edible grass is to place it in a small bowl and add in jelly beans or chocolate eggs. Place a Peep Chick or even a chocolate bunny on top and set on your charcuterie board.

How to make an Easter Candy Charcuterie Board:

Begin by placing any small bowls or larger sized items you are using on the board first. How you place your items will depend upon the shape of your board.

For square or rectangular shaped boards you may want to place items into each corner and then add items into other spots on the board.

For round boards you may want to include a larger item in the middle and then place rows of other items leading out from the middle.

adding the larger sized items to the Easter candy charcuterie board

Once you’ve added in the larger items fill in larger gaps with items such as marshmallow chicks, marshmallow bunnies and foil wrapped chocolates.

If you have some individual items, such as the Kinder Eggs, that are larger in size, add those in as well as they will take up a larger amount of space. You can place them together or in different spots on the board.

Adjust the items on the board to as you go to create more space.

Finally, place the smaller colorful candies in any gaps around the larger sized items. Continue to adjust the larger items, adding more in or taking some away, until the board looks balanced.

Don’t overfill the board or it will become messy looking. You can always return to fill in the gaps with the extra items as your guests enjoy the items on the board.

Can I use other items on this board?

Sure you can use any type of favorite candy whether or not they are traditional Easter candies.

If you have time you can include homemade treats such as cookies, brownies and cupcakes.

I don’t have a board or platter. What can I use?

No board or platter available? No worries. You can easily use a baking sheet (or two) in place of a platter. If your baking sheet has an raised edge that will help keep everything on the board.

Baking sheets are a simple charcuterie board that have an edge which helps keep the different items in place. Its an inexpensive charcuterie board swap as most people have baking pans in their homes. This is a great way to save money if you are on a tight
budget.

Is your baking sheet discolored from use? You can line the baking sheet with aluminum foil if desired to hide any discoloration.

Don’t have a tray with an edge? You can also use a wooden board, cutting boards or even a baking sheet in place of the tray.

I often use a metal serving tray from Walmart to make my charcuterie boards. It measures 18.5″ long  x 12.2″ wide x 3.7″ high. It’s created to be a bed serving tray so it has flip down legs that allow it to stand up making your candy board stand out on the table. Here’s a link to the Better Homes and Gardens tray that you can find at Walmart (link).
