Is Coffee Creamer Keto Friendly?

Store bought flavored creamers aren’t very keto friendly. They contain high amounts of sugar as well as other ingredients that add to the carb count.

Sugar free creamers, while being lower in carbs, are made with ingredients that many people on the keto diet look to avoid. Here’s the ingredients found in a popular sugar free creamer brand:

Ingredients in store bought coffee creamer

Depending upon which type of keto or low carbs diet you are following (Strict Keto, Clean Keto, etc) ingredients such as corn syrup and maltodextrin are often avoided even if they add a trivial amount of sugar as noted in the ingredients list.

You can enjoy a delicious cup of pumpkin spice coffee by making your own creamer. It’s easy to do and only takes a few ingredients which you may already have on hand.

How to sweeten your keto creamer

There are a few different ways to sweeten this homemade creamer so it fits whatever type of keto or low carb diet you follow.

Liquid sweeteners: you can use your choice of liquid sweeteners such as liquid stevia, Lakanto Liquid Monkfruit Sweetener, Allulose liquid sweetener or your favorite no calorie sweetener.

Granular sweetener: you can also use your favorite granular sweetener such as granular Lakanto Monkfruit, Swerve or your favorite granular no calorie sweetener.

Is it better to use a liquid over a granular sweetener?

No. They will both provide sweetness to your creamer. The difference between the two is to ensure that the granular sweetener has dissolved fully in the creamer before using. This can be easily accomplished by stirring the creamer well when the sweetener is first added to the mixture.

How to make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer

Before making your creamer you will want to mix up a batch of pumpkin spice mix. This is a blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves that gives your creamer its delicious pumpkin spice flavor. Store your extra pumpkin spice mix in a air tight container. You can use this blend to make a wide variety of delicious baked goods. Check out the list below.

Once you have your pumpkin spice mix it’s easy to whip up this creamer.

Pouring coffee creamer

Pumpkin Spice Creamer Ingredients

  • 13.5 ounce can of coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Now you may ask yourself where is the pumpkin?

Pumpkin spice creamer is just that…creamer made with the spices that flavor pumpkin baked goods. You don’t typically find actual pumpkin in the creamer. The small amount of pumpkin that could be added to the creamer, without changing the texture and leaving globs of pureed pumpkin in the creamer, doesn’t add much flavor. All the flavor comes from the spice blend.

Directions to make pumpkin spice creamer

Over medium heat in a medium sized saucer pan, add in the coconut milk (or milk of your choice), heavy cream , pumpkin spice and sweetener of your choice.

Bring the mixture in the sauce pan to a rapid boil. Turn the heat down and simmer, while stirring frequently for 6-8 minutes until you see the mixture start to thicken a bit.

Remove the creamer from the heat and let it cool. Once cool pour the creamer into a container and store in the fridge.

Remember to shake the creamer gently each time before using. If the creamer has been sitting for a bit the spices can settle out to the bottom of the container. Give it a quick shake to distribute them through the creamer mixture before using.
