How To Make Air Fryer Frozen Hash Brown Patties

Check out how to make frozen hash brown patties in the air fryer. They cook up quickly and come out so crispy. You can have perfectly crispy hash browns in less than 15 minutes.

Growing up we didn’t often have hash browns at home. They were time consuming to make by hand and you had to keep a close eye on them while they fried in a pan of oil. Plus the splattering oil made a mess of the stovetop.

Once the fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s started selling hash brown patties everyone loved to get them as part of a breakfast meal. Now, we can make hash browns at home any time we want thanks to the air fryer.

Sure you can bake them in the oven or cook them in a skillet but they just don’t come out as crispy as they do in the air fryer.

Frozen shredded hash brown patties come out golden and delicious every time you make them. Air fryers circulate hot air all around the food being cooked which cooks the food evenly and makes hash browns crisp.

This is such as easy recipe. The only ingredient you need to make this recipe is your favorite brand of frozen hash brown patties.

I’ve tried different brands of hashbrown patties including Ore Ida brand, Trader Joe’s hash browns and even grocery store brands. The air fryer turns them all into delicious crispy patties that make a quick snack or easy to make breakfast. They will become one of your favorite breakfast items on busy mornings.

You will also need an air fryer. Every air fryer has a different suggested time for preheating the air fryer and it depends upon the size of your air fryer. Follow the directions for your air fryer model for the best results.

If you choose not to preheat your air fryer it may then take a few extra minutes to get your hash brown patties to the desired level of crispness. Just follow the directions below.

Instructions to make Frozen Hash Brown Patties in the Air Fryer:

Start by preheating your air fryer according to your models instructions.

Place the frozen patties in the air fryer in a single layer and slightly spaced. Don’t overlap the hash browns or this will prevent them from evenly crisping.

Cook the hash browns at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes. I like to turn my hash browns once through the cooking cycle to get them nice and brown on both sides. They will still brown if you don’t flip them but the bottom side is just a little less crispy when I don’t flip them.

Once you have turned them over continue to cook at 400 degrees for another 5 minutes or until golden brown in color. I personally like my hash browns a bit crisper than other family members. Once I remove their patties I continue to cook my patty for another 2 minutes.

10 minutes is about the average total cooking time for frozen hash browns. This time may vary as each air fryer model cooks slightly different from each other.

Do you need to season the hash browns?

You don’t have to season the hash browns as they usually are pre-seasoned. However, we usually add a little black pepper, a sprinkle of parsley and sometimes even a bit of garlic powder to the tops once the hash browns are finished cooking.

How to store leftover hash browns:

Store any leftover patties in an air-tight container for 5-7 days.

To reheat the hash browns cook in the air fryer at 400 degrees for a total cook time of 3 to 4 minutes. This will make them nice and crisp again.

Can I put frozen hash browns in the air fryer?

crispy hash browns on a plate

Yes you absolutely can put frozen hash browns in the air fryer. Actually, these are the only kind I make at home.

The best way to make the crispiest hash brown patties is in the air fryer. If your previously frozen hash brown patties have thawed you still can cook them in the air fryer but you will need to reduce the cooking time. Try cooking thawed patties for 5 minutes on one side and then 2 to 3 minutes on the other side.

Can I stack the hash brown patties in the air fryer?

If you want crispy hash browns it’s best to not stack or overlap them. You’ll want to place a single layer of hashbrowns in your air fryer so they can evenly cook on both sides.

Stacking the patties will make it take longer to air fry the patties and the heat will not crispy the layers between the hash browns.

Do I need to use aluminum foil or a parchment liner in the air fryer?

No. Frozen hash browns don’t need to be cooked in the air fryer on aluminum foil or parchment liners. If you find that they stick in a few spots on the bottom of the air fryer basket then you can lightly spray the rack with non-stick baking spray first.

What can I serve with hash browns for breakfast?

Everyone has different items that they enjoy for breakfast. Hash browns make a quick breakfast and are the perfect complement to eggs, breakfast sausage, pancakes, waffles, twisted bacon, toast, biscuits.

Make breakfast or brunch into something special by including air fryer hash browns with a breakfast grazing board such as this one.

Serve these crispy air fryer hash browns patties up with your favorite breakfast foods.

Don’t forget to include some ketchup to dip your cooked hash browns in before eating. We have several family members who also like to dip them in a little sour cream, ranch dressing or even Comeback sauce.

Hash browns also make an easy side dish to serve with other foods such as burgers, steaks, fish, chicken and anywhere you might serve other potato dishes such as air fryer tater tots, french fries or even sweet potato fries. These patties make a delicious replacement that everyone will love.
