This homemade Cajun Seasoning recipe is the perfect blend of spicy and savory flavors. Use it to give any recipe a delicious flavor boost. It’s easy to make and the best part is you probably have many of the ingredients already on hand.
Cajun seasoning is one of my family’s favorite mixes. Like the hot sauce commercial says….they put that stuff on everything including hash brown potatoes, eggs, chicken, hamburgers, vegetables, soups and more. If you have a dish that could use a boost of flavor try adding some of this seasoning mix.
It doesn’t take long to mix this up and you most likely have many, if not all, of the herbs and spices in your kitchen.
For those who need to control your salt intake this mix tastes just as delicious without any salt being added to it.
Homemade Cajun Seasoning Mix
Ingredients to make Cajun Seasoning:
Paprika or Smoked Paprika
Garlic Powder
Dried Oregano
Cayenne
Onion Powder
Black Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes
Dried Thyme
Optional: Kosher or Sea Salt
Directions to make Cajun Seasoning:
Mix all the ingredients together. Store in a sealed container for up to 1 year.
Seasoning/Spice Tips:
Use smoked paprika in place of paprika. The slightly smokey flavor tastes delicious in this mix.
Use a combination of white and black pepper in place of all black pepper. There’s a difference in taste and heat between the two types of peppers.
Black pepper is produced from the unripe berries of the pepper plant which are dried until the skin is black. White pepper come from ripened berries that have been soaked in water, allowed to ferment and had the skin removed.
Black pepper has a sharp bite to it. White pepper has less bite and a more earthy flavor. If you want to give this seasoning mix a more earthy flavor with less of a sharp bite then swap out half of the black pepper.
How to use Cajun Seasoning:
- Sprinkle it over a cooked burger or mix 2 teaspoons of the mix it into the ground meat before cooking it.
- Use it as a dry rub on chicken, fish, pork, shrimp, steak and more.
- Shake a bit of the mix over oven roasted vegetables.
- Top deviled eggs with a bit of cajun seasoning. Use it in place of paprika.
- Create your own keto cheese chips and sprinkle cajun seasoning on top. See this recipe for the steps to make keto cheese chips but swap out the Everything But The Bagel seasoningM/u> with the cajun mix.
