Ingredients for Cheese Stuffed Garlic Bread Baguette:

Here’s the ingredients that you’ll need to make this cheese stuffed garlic bread:

A loaf or two of Baguette Bread – I like using baguette bread because I like the texture of the finished bread. The outside gets crispy yet stays a bit chewy. It’s a thinner loaf of bread when compared to something like Italian bread. For as much as I enjoy the soft inside of the bread I enjoy the crunchy crust even more which I why I go with the French Baguette.

You can use your favorite type of bread for this recipe. No need to buy a fancy bread to make this recipe. Try using Italian bread, Ciabatta bread, a loaf of French bread or your favorite loaf of bread you would like to use to make garlic bread.

Butter – you can use salted butter or unsalted butter to make this recipe. Let the butter come to room temperature as you will want it soft enough to work the herbs into the butter.

Fresh Garlic Cloves – while you can use diced or finely minced garlic cloves try using a microplaner to turn the cloves into fine bits that more evenly mix into the butter.

Fresh Lemon – I like to include a bit of lemon in my garlic butter and find that the flavor goes well with just about any meal. If you want more of a traditional garlic only flavor feel free to leave this ingredient out.

Fresh Herbs – I like to use a combination of herbs including Italian parsley, rosemary and chives to make my butter.

Salt and Black Pepper – you’ll want to add a bit more salt even if you use salted butter. Use your favorite table salt or kosher salt.

Shredded Cheese – use your favorite type of shredded cheese in this recipe. I like a combination of mozzarella and parmesan. I find that the parmesan cheese doesn’t get all melty like the mozzarella does but it adds great flavor to the bread.

How to make Cheese Stuffed Garlic Baguette Bread:

Prepare the garlic herb butter:

In a small bowl combine the softened butter, garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, parsley, rosemary, chives, salt and pepper. Stir until the flavored butter is well combined.

Prepare the bread:

Prepare the bread by cutting slices (diagonal cuts or straight ones) into the bread using a serrated knife. Don’t cut all the way through the bread. Stop about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch from the bottom of the bread. You can also cut the loaf in half the long way creating two bread halves. Once it’s cooked you can slice it into smaller pieces. Go with thick slices to make meal sized Texas toast sized pieces or cut into thinner pieces to make a perfect side dish.

Spread the garlic butter mixture between each of the slices. Holding the slices apart sprinkle some of the shredded cheese in between the slices.

To bake the garlic bread:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Fresh bread is soft so I like to wrap it in some aluminum foil so the slices don’t break apart. Plus the foil holds in any melted butter so the bread can soak it back up.

Bake for about 8 minutes. Then I peel back the top of the foil and bake for another 2 to 3 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

How to store leftover garlic bread:

Garlic bread is best when eat right after baking. If you have leftovers you can store them in a plastic storage bag or in an airtight container.

To reheat the bread place slices on a baking sheet in a preheated oven (350 degrees) for 8 to 10 minutes or until the slices are warm and the cheese is melted.

You can also reheat the slices of garlic bread in an air fryer. Place the slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 4 minutes at 375 degrees F.

What kind of bread works best for garlic bread?

My favorite is the French Baguette. While I enjoy the soft insides of a loaf of bread I actually enjoy the crispy crust even better. That crunch is why I like to use French Baguettes for my garlic bread. Ciabatta bread has a similar crispy, chewy crust and is great for garlic bread. The crust of Italian bread is very soft and I often like to use them a day or two after buying the loaf. Sourdough also makes delicious garlic bread.

Can you freeze garlic bread?

Sure you can. There are a variety of ready made frozen garlic bread offered in your local grocery store. If they already sell it frozen then there’s a good chance you can make your own to freeze.

To freeze the garlic bread you want to wrap it in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag or wrap it in foil. Store the garlic bread in the freezer for up to three months.

You can freeze the whole prepared loaf (sliced with garlic butter spread on the slices and cheese sprinkled in between) or you can freeze individual slices that have been topped with garlic butter and shredded cheese on one side. The bread turns out great no matter which way you choose to freeze it.

Can you bake garlic bread from frozen?

To cook the frozen bread start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees F. Unwrap the frozen garlic bread (whole or frozen as slices), place it on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

Do you have to defrost frozen garlic bread?

No there’s no need to thaw the garlic bread in order to bake it. When you are ready to make the bread simply remove the frozen bread, place on a baking sheet and bake according to the directions above.

Recipe Variations:

Looking to switch this up a bit? Don’t have all the needed ingredients on hand? Here’s a few different recipe variations to try:

Dried herbs – if you don’t have fresh herbs you can replace them with dried herbs. Dried herbs are more concentrated than fresh herbs.

For each tablespoon of fresh herbs replace it with 1 teaspoon of dried herbs.

One clove of garlic is equal to 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder or granulated garlic.

Cheese – Swap out the mozzarella or parmesan cheese for another type of shredded cheese. They all taste great with the garlic butter.
