You don’t have to be on a keto diet to enjoy some of the Best Keto Cabbage Recipes around. Cabbage makes a great foundation for so many meals. It makes a great side dish as well as flavorful main dish.
Not only is cabbage delicious it’s also budget friendly as well as packed with vitamins. It’s a super versatile vegetable that you’ll want to include in your diet.
Let’s talk carbs.
The first thing anyone on a keto diet will ask about any type of food is how many carbs are in this?
Cabbage is one of my favorite low carb vegetables. It’s tasty. It’s filling. You can eat a good amount without it using up your carb count for the day.
1 cup of chopped raw green cabbage has the following nutrition stats:
22 calories
5 grams of total carbs
2.3 grams of fiber
1.1 grams of protein.
2.7 grams of net carbs
Net carbs are the carbs that will affect your blood sugar levels. They are calculated by taking total carbs minus grams of fiber = net carbs.
1 cup of shredded cabbage has the following nutritional stats:
17 calories
4.1 grams of total carbs
1.8 grams of fiber
0.9 g protein
2.3 g net carbs
Shredded cabbage comes in slightly lower in calories/carbs than chopped cabbage because the shreds weigh less.
Cooking cabbage removes some of the water in it so it shrinks. There will be more cooked cabbage in a cup when compared to raw cabbage. This changes the carb count a bit.
1 cup of cooked cabbage has the following nutritional stats:
34 calories
8.2 grams of total carbs
3.6 grams of fiber
2 grams of protein
4.6 net grams of carbs
