This flavorful No Bean Ground Turkey Chili is about to become your new favorite chili recipe. It doesn’t contain beans so it is perfect for anyone on a keto or low carb diet.
I’m a big chili fan. I love all the flavors found in chili. But following a low carb diet means I try to avoid chili that contains lots of beans, corn or other starchy vegetables. This chili is great. It doesn’t contain beans so the carb count is lower. The carbs in the chili come from healthy bell peppers, onions and diced tomatoes.
You don’t have to be on a low carb or keto diet to make this chili. Maybe you avoid beans because you don’t like them. You may not like beans but you will like this chili!
No Bean Ground Turkey Chili Recipe
This chili doesn’t take many ingredients. You probably already have many of them on hand in your kitchen. Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients for No Bean Ground Turkey Chili:
Ground Turkey – use your favorite brand. My local store carries Perdue brand ground turkey so that’s what I use.
Diced Onion – use a medium sized onion.
Bell Pepper – I used a green bell pepper. You can use red, yellow or orange bell pepper if desired.
Garlic – use fresh cloves of garlic or use jarred minced garlic for this recipe.
Green Chiles – I used a 4 ounce can of green chiles.
Diced Tomatoes – If you have fired roasted diced tomatoes available in your local grocery store you can use those in this recipe.
Tomato Sauce
Beef Broth
Liquid Smoke – look for liquid smoke in the section where you find BBQ sauce. Liquid smoke gives a delicious grilled, smokey flavor to the chili. If you don’t have it or can’t find it this can be left out. The chili will still be delicious.
Spices including chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper.
Not shown in the picture is a small amount of olive oil that I use to sauté the vegetables.
Toppings: serve the chili with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, sliced olives or even sliced jalapenos.
How to make this No Bean Ground Turkey Chili:
In a large stock pot, over medium heat, add the olive oil, onions, garlic and bell pepper. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes or until they have started to soften.
Add in the ground turkey and brown while breaking it into small crumbles.
Add the diced tomatoes, green chiles, tomato sauce, liquid smoke as well as the spices. Stir well to combine.
Turn the heat to medium low. Add in the beef broth and stir well. Cook over medium low heat. Allow the chili to cook while stirring occasionally for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
How to garnish this no bean turkey chili:
You can top this chili with your favorite garnishes such as shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, sliced olives, avocado slices or chunks, cilantro, sliced jalapenos or whatever else you like on top of your chili.
How to store this turkey chili:
This turkey chili can be stored in the refrigerator in a covered container for about 5 days for the best flavor. If you need to keep leftovers longer then it would be better to freeze them. See below for more freezer tips.
Can this turkey chili be frozen?
Yes this turkey chili recipe is perfect for freezing! I will often double the recipe so I can store leftovers in individual serving sizes to be used for a quick lunch or dinner. Portion your leftover chili into covered containers and store for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Serve the chili with your favorite toppings including shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, sliced or whatever else you enjoy on top of your chili.
Is this no bean turkey chili keto?
Yes it is. This turkey chili recipe does not contain the high carb ingredients such as beans, corn or other starchy vegetables such as potatoes that would make the chili not keto. The carbs come from the tomatoes, onions and bell pepper.
Can I use a different type of ground meat in this recipe?
Sure this recipe is simple enough that you can swap out the ground turkey for another type of ground meat and the chili will still be delicious. Try ground beef, ground chicken or even ground pork.
Can this recipe be made in a slow cooker or crock pot?
Yes this easy keto chili recipe can easily be made in a slow cooker or crockpot.
Place the ground turkey in the slow cooker and break up into smaller pieces. Add the remaining ingredients and stir to mix. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours. While the low carb turkey chili is cooking you will need to break up the ground turkey as it cooks. Use a spatula to help break the turkey up into smaller crumbles about half way through the cooking time. Continue to cook until the meat is browned.
Depending upon your crockpot the cooking times will vary slightly. Once the turkey is cooked through the chili is ready to be served.
