Low Carb Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

If you love frozen drinks but don’t want all the carbs then you will love this low carb frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe.

Now this recipe isn’t a zero carb drink. You still have the naturally occurring sugars found in the fruit but, when compared to a traditionally made strawberry daiquiri, this is lower in carbs.

Daiquiri’s are made with strawberries, lime, tequila and a simply syrup (traditionally made with high carb sugar) to add a bit of sweetness to the drink. You can use your favorite no calorie sweetener to add sweetness without extra carbs. There are still carbs present in the strawberries. But not the same amount as you find in pre-made strawberry daiquiri drink mixer.

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

low carb frozen strawberry daiquiri in glasses garnished with lime slices

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of ice
  • 16 ounce bag of frozen whole or sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup of lime juice
  • 1 cup of white rum
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup of simple syrup (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • Lime slices and whole strawberries for garnishes

Directions:

Start by making the simple syrup. You can find our recipe for easy to make a sugar free simple syrup here.

Place half of the frozen strawberries into a high-powered blender. Add the lime juice, 1/4 cup of simple syrup and rum. Cover and blend on highest setting until smooth.

Remove the cover and add in the half of the remaining frozen strawberries. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Repeat with the remaining strawberries. Continue blending until all strawberries have been added and the mixture is completely smooth.

Now start blending in the ice 1 cup at a time. Blending until smooth after each addition.

This cocktail works best when you use a high-powered blender such as a Vitamix to ensure that the ice is broken up into smaller pieces. You may find that typical household blenders will leave larger pieces of ice behind. I get around that problem by first placing my ice cubes into a sealed plastic bag and giving them a couple of hard wasks with my meat mallet. This helps to break them into smaller pieces and I find my blender is better able to break them up.

Taste your strawberry daiquiri. If you need it a bit sweeter and more simple syrup a tablespoon at a time until you get it to your desired level of sweetness.

Pour into serving glasses and garnish with a slice of lime and/or fresh strawberries right before serving. Enjoy!

What’s the Best Rum for a Daiquiri?

For this recipe you would want to use a white rum rather than a spiced rum or a dark rum. The flavor of the white rum is lighter and goes well with the fruit. If you only have a dark rum on hand then use that. The flavor is a but stronger but it still goes well with the strawberries. Spiced rum would be my last choice as the spices change the flavor of the strawberry drink.

Before making the drink take a few minutes to make the simple syrup. You can find our recipe for easy to make a sugar free simple syrup here. Allow the syrup to cool so the warmer temperature doesn’t melt the drink.

Now a few words about the carb count in this drink.

Traditional strawberry daiquiri mix contains about 27 grams of carbs per 8 ounce drink.

This low carb version? If you make 6 drinks there will be 11 net grams of carbs per drink. The carbs come from the strawberries as well as the rum.

Alcoholic drinks are better enjoyed in limited amounts by anyone trying to limit the amount of carbs they are eating/drinking. The alcohol will be metabolized by the liver first as it’s not stored by the body before the carbs are metabolized. This can knock some people out of ketosis for a period of time. Your mileage may vary so keep this in mind and enjoy this frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe as an occasional treat.
