Halloween Snack Board

There are no rules when it comes to making a snack board! Use your favorite snacks and have fun with it. You can make a big snack board to feed a crowd or a smaller snack board for just a few friends or family members.

Start by deciding on how many people you want to feed. This will help you determine the number of snacks and even the size of the board.

You’ll want a mixture of sweet as well as salty snacks. This board features easy to make Halloween Popcorn Balls that can be quickly made several days before your snack board is needed.

Have fun with making this board. Use your favorite snacks or whatever you have in your pantry. Here’s what you’ll need:

Ingredients for a Halloween Snack Board

Dried Fruit – choose your favorite dried fruit to enjoy with the other snacks. For this board I used dried apricots as this was the flavor of jam that I was also using.

Cheese – you’ll want to use 2 to 4 different types of cheese for this board. To make it visually appealing pick different shapes and styles of cheese. Here’s some of what was used for this board:

Small wheel of Brie cheese – this type of cheese was used not only because it tastes great on crackers but you can also carve letters out of the rind to create a decorative design.

Cheese Cubes – I used our favorite types of cheese cubes to fill in the gaps on the board. You can buy already cubed cheese or simply buy a block of cheese and cut your own cubes. This board includes cheddar cheese and white cheddar cheese cubes.

Sliced Cheese – rectangular slices of cheese were cut into triangles before being stacked on the board.

Crackers – use your favorite type of crackers for your snack board. I will often purchase the Assorted Entertainment Crackers at my local grocery store. This gives me a variety of shapes and types of crackers to use on my snack board.

Jam – you’ll need about 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of jam to fill in the letters on your wheel of Brie cheese. Use your favorite flavor. I went with apricot to go with the dried fruit being used.

Candy – I like to include a bit of sweet to go with the savory and salty flavors on the snack board. For this board I used Kit Kat Bars and unwrapped Rolos. You can use any type of candy to dress up the board and fill in the gaps. Why not include some fall themed candy such as candy corn, mallow pumpkins and other seasonal favorites.

Nuts – these are another great snack item to include on your board. Fill in the gaps between the larger snack items with a few handfuls of your favorite type of nuts. This board includes cashews but you can easily use peanuts, almonds or whatever you enjoy.

Don’t forget a charcuterie board!

You don’t need to have a special board to create your charcuterie board. You can use a wood cutting board, large platter or even a baking sheet. Check out the FAQ’s below for tips on what to use.

How to make a Halloween Snack Board

Start by preparing the cheddar cheese and brie cheese for the charcuterie board.

With a sharp knife remove the top ¼ of the wheel of brie cheese.

slicing the top off the round of brie cheese

Carefully cut out the word “BOO” out of the slice that you removed from the top of the cheese.

Spread apricot jam on the bottom portion of the brie and cover with the top.

Cut the apple smoked cheddar first into slices. Then cut the slices into triangles.

To assemble the charcuterie board:

Begin by positioning the small bowl containing the jam and the brie on your charcuterie board. Where you will place them will depend upon the shape of your board. Space them out as you will fill in the space with the other items.

Alternate the cut triangle shaped slices of cheese to create the decorative shape seen in the picture above. Use some of the nuts or dried fruit to help support the slices.

Adding the jar, brie, slices of cheese and nuts to the charcuterie board.

Add the crackers and popcorn balls to the board as these are the other large items that will take up most of the space on the board. Where you position them and how many you use will depend upon the size and shape of your board.

To make the board look balanced group several popcorn balls together. You can add them to one side or on several sides of the board.

Place some of the small candies around the bowl with the jam. This is a fun way to add a bit of color and it separates the different items on the board.

Place small piles of single pieces of Kit Kat bars, Rolo candies and cheese cubes.

Fill in the gaps with small amounts of nuts and dried fruit.

adding in the candy, nuts, fruit and cheese cubes to the festive halloween snack board

A full board is visually appealing when first served. To make the board appear full you will want to bring all the items to the edge of the board.

Use the smaller items such as the candies, nuts or cheese cubes to fill the empty space on the board.

I don’t have a charcuterie board. What can I use?

No board or platter available? No worries. You can also use a wooden board, cutting boards or even a baking sheet in place of the tray.

If your baking sheet has an raised edge that will help keep everything on it.

Is your baking sheet discolored from use? You can line the baking sheet with aluminum foil if desired to hide any discoloration. Or use decorative paper or napkins to line the baking sheet.

How do you assemble a perfect charcuterie board?

Start with the largest items first, then the medium sized items, then fill in the gaps with the smallest items. Try to arrange the board so nothing that looks too similarly is touching.

Begin by placing any small bowls or larger sized items you are using on the board first. How you place your items will depend upon the shape of your board.

For square or rectangular shaped boards you may want to place items into each corner and then add items into other spots on the board.

For round boards or round trays you may want to include a larger item in the middle and then place rows of other items leading out from the middle.

Once you’ve added in the larger items fill in the gaps with smaller items.

Don’t overfill the board or it will become messy looking. You can always return to fill in the gaps with the extra items as your guests enjoy the items on the board.

Add to the Halloween theme by adding a few pieces of Halloween decor on the board. I’ve placed a few plastic spiders, candy eyeballs, gummy worms and even a plastic skeleton hand on this Halloween-themed snack board to dress it up.

Ingredient Swaps:

Looking to swap out the items on the above snack board? Why not try using some of these items on your snack board:

Fresh fruit – To make this board easy to make use berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or blueberries) or grapes. They don’t require any slicing or peeling. Just give them a quick rinse, dry them and place on the board.

Caramel Apples – another favorite combination to include on a snack board is apple slices and a small bowl of caramel sauce for dipping.

Other salty snacks – swap out the salty nuts for other salty snacks such as pretzel sticks, nuggets or other small shapes.

Cheese – Don’t want to buy cheese to make cheese cubes? You can easily use cheese sticks /string cheese. Remove them from the package and cut them into 4 or 5 pieces to make small bite sized pieces.

Other sweet snacks: swap out the popcorn balls for some of your favorite sweet snacks such as Halloween cookies, Halloween Oreos, Halloween sugar cookies, mini cupcakes or other small treats. Swap out the Kit Kat bars and Rolo candy for your favorite candy such as peanut butter cups, mini chocolate bars or even Halloween themed candy.
