This Feta Burgers Recipe are amazingly flavorful. They are simmered in a delicious cream sauce. This is a recipe that everyone loves. Try serving these burgers over mashed potatoes, rice, low carb zucchini zoodles, mashed cauliflower or even spaghetti squash.
You don’t have to serve them with the cream sauce. You can just make up the burgers and eat them in your favorite type of bun or wrapped in a lettuce leaf.
Feta Burgers Recipe With Cream Sauce
While your making these burgers why not double or triple the batch to create several freezer meals. Freeze the burgers with a layer of waxed paper between them to keep them from freezing into one giant frozen block. Keeping them separated also means you don’t have to take the whole package out. You can remove one burger if that’s all you need. This makes it easy to make a quick meal without having extra burgers left over.
Ingredients for Feta Burgers:
Ground Beef – use your favorite blend. I prefer 80/20 or 85/15 as I want some fat in the meat to keep them juicy.
Large Egg – this helps to hold the mixture together.
Feta Cheese – you’ll want to use crumbled feta cheese or chop up a block of feta into small pieces. This helps it to blend into the meat mixture. Tangy feta cheese adds great flavor to the sauce.
Seasonings including salt, ground black pepper, basil, garlic and Italian Seasoning Mix
Beef Broth – you may want to use low salt or no salt broth for this recipe if you are sensitive to salt. The feta cheese already contains a good amount of salt and the broth will add more.
Heavy Whipping Cream – use heavy whipping cream or half and half to make the cream sauce.
Tomato Paste – adds flavor to the sauce.
Non stick spray or a bit of oil such as olive oil, canola oil or vegetable oil
Optional: Sliced Green Onion or Fresh Parsley – you can add these as a garnish to the finished dish.
Directions to make Feta Burgers:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, feta cheese, basil, garlic and black pepper. Mix with hands until well blended.
Form into equal=sized patties. You will get about 14 to 16 smaller patties (about 2 ounces each) or 7 to 8 regular sized patties (about 4 ounces each).
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Spray with non stick spray or coat the pan with a bit of oil.
Add the patties and cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
Remove the patties from the pan and set them aside.
Lower the heat on the pan to about medium. Pour the beef broth into the pan to deglaze the pan. Using a whisk gently scrap all the bits off the bottom of the pan. Add in the Italian Seasoning.
Add the tomato paste. Whisk in 1 cup of whipping cream. Mix well until combined.
Add in salt and pepper to taste. Place the patties back in the sauce. Turn the heat to low and simmer the patties in the sauce for 5 to 7 minutes or until the insides are no longer pink.
Serve feta burgers with sauce over your favorite low carb mashed potatoes, zoodles or low carb pasta. Top with chopped green onions or fresh parsley for garnish if desired.
Serve Feta Burgers in Cream Sauce over:
Zucchini noodles or Shirataki noodles
Feeding other family members who eat higher carb foods? This still tastes great when served with keto sides. But if they are looking for other dishes then this tastes great served over egg noodles, mashed potatoes and rice.
Recipe Swaps:
Ground Meat: You can use other types of ground lean meat for this recipe such as ground turkey, ground chicken or a mixture of ground lean beef and ground lamb for this recipe.
Seasoning Mixes: You can use grocery store bought seasoning mixes or make your own at home. Try this easy to make Greek Seasoning Mix or swap it out for this Italian Seasoning Mix.
Add other ingredients: try adding finely chopped fresh spinach or cook spinach (squeeze out the extra liquid) into the ground meat mixture to make Spinach Feta Burgers. You can also add in half of a small red onion that has been finely diced. Try adding in several diced roasted red peppers into the ground beef mixture.
Storing, Freezing and Meal Prep Instruction:
To store: Store leftover burgers and cream sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a saucepan over low heat so the cream sauce does not burn.
To make-ahead: Make dinner even easier by prepping the burgers ahead of time. Prepare the burgers, form into patties and store them in airtight containers in the refrigerator until ready to make.
To Freeze: This recipe can be turned into a freezer meal to be used for a busy weeknight meal. First mix then form the beef patties and place between layers of parchment paper or waxed paper. Place in freezer bags and freeze for 2-3 months.
Make sure to label the bag with the recipe name and the date. The burgers can be thawed in the refrigerator overnight and then follow the recipe from the recipe step where you cook the burgers in the skillet.
