Ingredients

For Ham Broth:

  • 1 Ham Bone
  • 1 small Onion quartered
  • 1 carrot shredded or diced
  • 2 stalks celery cut in 4 pieces
  • 8 to 10 cups water

For Bean With Ham Soup:

  • 1 medium Onion diced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 stalks celery diced
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoons parsley dried
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 16 ounces Navy Beans dried
  • 8 ounces Ham meat removed from ham bone
  • 8 to 10 cups Ham broth
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

To Make Ham Broth:

  • Add the ham bone, onion, celery, carrots and seasonings into the slow cooker. Add water and cook on high for 8 to 10 hours.

  • Strain out solids and following directions below to make the bean soup.

To Make The Bean With Ham Soup:

  • Into the ham broth add the diced onions, carrots and celery to the crockpot. Mix in the ham meat as well as the beans and seasonings.
    1 medium Onion, 2 carrots, 2 stalks celery, 3 bay leaves, 2 teaspoons parsley, 2 teaspoons dried thyme, 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder, 1 teaspoon Salt, 16 ounces Navy Beans, 8 ounces Ham, 8 to 10 cups Ham broth, 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Set the slow cooker to LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 5-6 hours or until the beans are soft and tender.
  • Remove the bay leaves. To make the soup thicker, remove about 2 cups of the soup mixture. Use an immersion blender or a regular blender to puree the soup. Add back to the crock pot, stir until combined.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
