If you love frozen drinks but don’t want all the carbs then you will love this low carb frozen strawberry margarita recipe.
Now this recipe isn’t a zero carb drink. You still have the naturally occurring sugars found in the fruit but, when compared to a traditionally made strawberry margarita, this is lower in carbs.
Frozen Strawberry Margarita Recipe
Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:
Strawberries – save yourself time by using a bag of frozen strawberries
Fresh Lime Juice – you’ll need the juice from 1-2 large limes for this recipe. You can also use bottled lime juice.
White Tequila – use your favorite brand
Cointreau – use this liqueur or your favorite orange flavored liqueur.
Lime slices and whole fresh strawberries to garish the drinks if desired.
How to make Frozen Strawberry Margaritas
Place half of the frozen strawberries into a high-powered blender. Add the lime juice, tequila, and orange-flavored liquor. Cover and blend on highest setting until smooth.
Remove the vent cap on the blender lid. Add in the remaining frozen strawberries one at a time while the blender is still running. Continue blending until all strawberries have been added and the mixture is completely smooth.
For a thicker margarita add some ice and blend until the desired consistency is reached.
Pour into serving glasses and garnish with a slice of lime and/or fresh strawberries right before serving. Enjoy!
Now a few words about the carb count in this drink.
Traditional strawberry margarita mix contains about 44 grams of carbs per 12 ounce drink.
This low carb version? If you make 3 drinks (8 ounces each) there will be 16 net grams of carbs. Reduce the portion size a bit and make 4 drinks (6 ounces each) and each drink will have 12 net grams of carbs. The carbs come from the strawberries as well as the alcohol (the orange flavored liqueur).
Alcoholic drinks are better enjoyed in limited amounts by anyone trying to limit the amount of carbs they are eating/drinking. The alcohol will be metabolized by the liver first as it’s not stored by the body before the carbs are metabolized. This can knock some people out of ketosis for a period of time. Your mileage may vary so keep this in mind and enjoy this frozen strawberry margarita recipe as an occasional treat.
Looking for a frozen strawberry drink with a few less carbs? Then try this Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri recipe. It doesn’t contain the orange liqueur so it has fewer carbs but is just as delicious!
