What is Cinco de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo is a holiday celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States. It’s also called the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla. This is celebrated to honor a victory of the Mexican army over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
Cinco de Mayo is not as big of a celebration in Mexico (Mexican Independence Day is in September and is their national holiday) however in the US the day has become a way of honoring Mexican heritage.
You’ll find that celebrations in the US will include parties, mariachi music, folk dancing and delicious food.
